1968 Shelby GT500 Has the Heart of a BMW V8

For purists, just swapping an LS V8 in any Mustang is a crime, but putting a BMW V8 in this 1968 Shelby GT500 is an unforgivable sin. Yet that is exactly the kind of Frankenstein creation shown in this South African video.

This is one of the strangest buildings we have ever seen.

The engine is provided by the BMW E92 M3. Some would say that's a good mill, others think it's overkill and not as good as other M3 engines. It seems like plenty of classic lightweight horse-drawn carriages.

There is a surprising amount of mystery surrounding this building. The reviewer says that the seller who has it for sale knows nothing about who built it or when, and how it came to be. Is this common in South Africa? We really don't know.

You realize that not all things work well or at all in a car. The assembler only assembled some things, others moved. The reviewer says that when he pushes the Bimmer GT500 it turns into squirrels. And his power window doesn't even roll down.

Of course, some of the BMW interior parts had to be transplanted into the Shelby to make everything work properly. That said, the cabin is nothing like the original, and bears the hallmarks of a restomod for this GT500. Some hate such things, they prefer honest restoration. We just like it.

Don't forget that this car will find all the BMW purists, too. After all, the engine is probably considered too good to be in a Ford, making it complete garbage or other nonsense.

The guy who did this review says the build drives “how an E92 M3 should drive.” Well it looks like a '68 Shelby GT500.
