CONWAY, SC – For nearly three decades, Gary Gilmore has set the standard for the Coastal Carolina baseball program, leading the Chanticleers to 19 states (six wins), three major states and a 2016 national championship. He will go down in history as one of the greatest college baseball coaches of his era — but that moment came late last spring, when Gilmore retired after leading the Chants to one final season appearance.
But the post-Gilmore transition hasn't been as smooth, as Kevin Schnall has been waiting in the wings to take over the head coaching job for years.[…]
