2024: The Year in Pictures – Los Angeles Times
The year began with heavy rains in Southern California, causing massive landslides, and ended dramatically with wildfires ravaging the entire South.
Genaro Molina chronicled the end of an era in the Olympic publishing industry for The Times. After deciding to pull the plug, the company announced that the facility, once a jewel in the media empire, will close in 2024.
Times photographer Robert Gauthier captured all the chaos behind the 2024 Emmys as the winners made their way backstage and the presenters waited in the wings. The stars met, read their cards and watched the monitors leave the stage.
The Times' photo staff covered the university protests, where groups of protesters clashed at UCLA, one of several universities where students pitched tents as part of protests by students, faculty and staff demanding an end to Israel's actions in Gaza and demobilization. from firms that sell weapons or services in the country. Access to USC was limited to students, faculty, staff and registered visitors after more than a week of protests over the Israel-Hamas war.
The sports year ended with the Dodgers and Galaxy both lifting championship trophies in 2024, marking a year of ups and downs.
