3 reasons quantum computing could be a 'game changer' for AI

Quantum computing stocks are in focus after Google unveiled its new quantum computing chip, Willow, which has contributed to recent gains in Alphabet stock.

ID-Wave (QBTS), a quantum computing company, announced that it has received $175 million in funding. CEO Alan Baratz joins Catalysts Co-Hosts Seana Smith and Madison Mills to analyze what's happening in the quantum space computing and what investors need to know about its connection to artificial intelligence (AI).

“There's a lot of synergy between AI and quantum,” Baratz said, adding, “The way I think there are three areas where AI and quantum work together.”

“The first and most obvious is that each can work together to solve a problem through collaboration. For example, you could use AI to predict future demand for a product and then use quantum computing to improve the supply chain to meet that demand.”

“Second, we're doing a lot of work right now on how quantum computing can be used as part of model training and AI description.” The CEO explains, “Because [quantum is] much faster than classical [computing] and requires much less energy, we think we can support model training and interpretation using much lower energy than is possible today, which could be a game changer.”

“Finally, quantum diffusion models instead of classical diffusion would allow for more accuracy [AI] models.”
