The Malibu wildfires are forcing celebrities to flee their luxury homes as the damage spreads
Thousands of people have left their homes in Malibu as the Franklin fire has engulfed the city, including a number of high-profile residents.
On Monday, the fires spread widely, fueled by Santa Ana's dry climate and wind. According to Cal Fire, six buildings were damaged and nine were destroyed. Only 7% of the fire has been extinguished.
Dick Van Dyke, Jane Seymour and Brooke Burke and other stars have taken to social media to share their devastation in their community, with many fleeing with their children and beloved pets.
MALIBU FIRE DESTROYED DICK VAN DYKE'S HOME; 98-year-old star 'SAFELY BROKEN'
Dick Van Dyke
Legendary legend Van Dyke told his fans that he and his wife, Arlene Silver, had to leave Malibu.
“Arlene and I got out safely with our animals apart from that [our cat] Bobo escaped as we were walking. We pray that he is safe and that our community at Serra Retreat survives this terrible fire,” Van Dyke wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
Hours later, the veteran actress noted that she has reunited with her best friend.
“We found Bobo as soon as we got home this morning. There was so much interest in his disappearance that Animal Control was called to come and help us. But, thankfully, he was easy to find and unharmed,” Van Dyke said.
On Thursday morning, Van Dyke appeared on the “Today” show and recounted the shocking exodus.
“It was coming from the other side of the mountain. You [could] look,” he spoke to the fire. “I was trying to crawl out of the car. I was fed up. I couldn't get up. Three neighbors came and carried me and went out with me and came back and lit a small fire in the guest house and rescued me.”
Mark Hamill
Mark Hamill couldn't get out of Malibu because of the Franklin wildfires. The “Star Wars” actor informed fans on social media that he was locked up.
“Please stay safe everyone! I am not allowed to leave the house, which is completely compatible with my aging lifestyle,” wrote the 73-year-old.
