Biden's Conahan Commutation
President Biden sparked outrage in Pennsylvania after he commuted the sentence of a corrupt judge who was jailed for more than 17 years after he was caught running a racketeering scheme to send children to detention centers for profit.
In what is known as the funding scandal, former Judge Michael Conahan shut down a county-run juvenile detention center and shared $2.8 million in illegal payments from the developer and owner of two for-profit facilities. Another judge, Mark Ciavarella, was also involved in the game illegal systemthe effects of which are still felt today among the victims and their families.
The scandal is considered the largest corruption scheme in Pennsylvania as the state's highest court has thrown out nearly 4,000 juvenile charges involving more than 2,300 children after the scheme was exposed…Read more
