Nancy Pelosi is in the hospital after being injured on an overseas trip

Former Speaker of the US House, Nancy Pelosi, was hospitalized after suffering unspecified injuries during a visit to Luxembourg, her office said on Friday.

American media reported that Pelosi suffered a hip injury after tripping and falling during the event, citing sources who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Pelosi, 84, “is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and specialists,” spokesman Ian Krager said in a statement.

The Democrat, who still represents California in the US House, was accompanying a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Krager said Pelosi is “looking forward to returning home to the US soon” and continues to work at the hospital.

The San Francisco congressman has been a prominent figure in US politics in a career that spans seven presidential administrations.

He first served as Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011, the second most powerful position in the presidency after the vice president, and regained the job in 2019 after his party returned to power.

He resigned from this position in 2023 after two separate years in this role. But he continued to serve in the house. Last month, he was re-elected for another two-year term.

Pelosi joined 17 other members of the House on a bipartisan trip to Luxembourg, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson's office. The team is scheduled to participate in commemorative events alongside veterans, their families and military officials.

Pelosi will not be able to participate in the events, her spokesperson said.

His injury comes days after outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, suffered a broken wrist and facial injuries after falling at the US Capitol.
