A DC restaurant server was fired after making comments about refusing to work for other Trump officials

A server at a Washington, DC restaurant has been fired after she said she might have denied Trump administration officials entry.

“I personally would not agree to work for anyone in a position that I know is a sex trafficker or trying to deport millions of people,” Suzannah Van Rooy, who works at Beuchert's Saloon on Capitol Hill, told The Washingtonian this week. “It's not like, 'Oh, we hate Republicans.' That this person has moral beliefs that are diametrically opposed to mine, and I don't feel comfortable serving them.”

His comments were part of a report on whether there would be “resistance” to some of Trump's figures in public and after several high-profile incidents during his first term. They included then-assistant Sarah Huckabee Sanders being fired from a restaurant in Lexington, Va., and protesters swarming former Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen's DC Mexico neighborhood.

“People were very motivated the first time to do those kinds of shows of love. This time, there is a kind of defeat and acceptance,” said Van Rooy, according to the Washingtonian. “But I hope that people will still stand up to these managers and tell them their opinions about their misconduct.”

According to an update on his LinkedIn page on Friday, which has since been taken down, Van Rooy listed his duties as running day-to-day operations, restaurant messaging strategies, developing relationships with lobbyists, and managing in-house events for political officials and VIPs. .

His page also said he worked as a campaigner for Texas Democrat Beto O'Rourke who failed to run for governor in 2022.

Beuchert's Saloon told Fox News Digital that Van Rooy's comments were “reprehensible” and that he was fired for violating a “zero tolerance policy for discrimination.”

Beuchert said the former employee was part-time and not a manager. It issued statements on social media condemning his remarks after being informed about them on Thursday.

“Recent comments made by a staff member who was not authorized to speak for our entire restaurant, have been marked as inappropriate, hostile, intolerant, and unacceptable. This employee does NOT speak for us as a restaurant,” Beuchert's initial statement Thursday said.

“After launching in January, we will begin serving our fourth administration as a neighborhood restaurant on Capitol Hill that is open and welcoming to all. We have always been a safe place for everyone. Everyone, especially anyone who feels preconceived or misunderstood, will do so. Always get friendly service and and a sympathetic ear at Beuchert's Saloon Also, we deeply apologize for the comments made by a member of staff NOT representing our Restaurant and not reflective of how we operate as a business, and how We are proud to be a gathering place on Capitol Hill.”

On Friday, the restaurant said it had decided to fire the server over the incident, calling her comments and subsequent behavior “unforgivable.” It also said that he signed on to the restaurant's social media accounts to speak for the restaurant without authorization.

“Not only that Ms. Van Rooy clearly violates our zero tolerance policy for racism, but his decision to take to social media in the middle of the night to write his own speech in response to offensive questions is another violation. He has no authority to speak for us, and his comments do not reflect the positions of more than twenty other people who are our employees,” read Friday's statement.

“For these reasons and the disappointment and disgust we feel for her unforgivable behavior, Ms. Van Rooy has been fired immediately. Our employees and families (many of whom were offended by Ms. Van Rooy's comments about them) are horrified by what Ms. Van Rooy said and did, and we as a restaurant are horrified to be associated with basic racism.”

The comments went on to urge the rest of the restaurant not to be blamed for his brutal actions.

“We are still the same restaurant known for its warm service and friendly staff, and we hope you will all visit us soon. We look forward to serving you. Everyone,” he wrote.
