My Life in Food: Katie Lee Biegel Shares Her Last Comfort Meal
Food plays an important role Katie Lee Biegelwork, from Food Network's cohosting The kitchen in hosting his podcast, “All On the Table.” But food has been an important part of many important moments in the chef's personal life, from childhood to today.
Katie Lee, 43, still remembers what she ordered on her first day with her husband, Ryan Biegeland food that couples will eat when they get engaged in 2018.
“We met when I was filming Sea Bites and he was my producer, so we had a secret relationship,” he reveals exclusively in his My Life in Food feature in the latest issue. So stuffed fish is always one of our special meals together. If we see it on the menu, we get it.”
Soon, Ryan popped the question during their romantic getaway to Paris, and the food on their table was Pommes Bearnaise from Chez l'Ami Louis. The two tied the knot in September 2018, and welcomed daughter Iris two years later.
Although she's a chef, a key aspect of Katie Lee's cooking is spirits – and she has her own organic winery, Kind of Wild, to keep the good spirits flowing.
“For me, food and wine are like a hip bone attached to a leg bone,” says the Kitchen manager Us at an event to celebrate the launch of Purvi PadiaA Holiday Collection of Indulgences. “I like comfort food. And I include wine in that category. And to be truly comforted by your food or your wine, you need to know where it came from, how it was grown, how it got to your plate or glass and how it will leave the environment and the future. “

What special dinner would your parents make for your birthday?
I love that question. I ask you that on my podcast, actually. I love knowing what birthday people ate when they were kids. When I was a kid I always wanted my grandma to make me pot roast and mashed potatoes for my birthday. That was my favorite. And his home scrolls.

Do you have a snack you're obsessed with?
I'm obsessed with Top Seedz crackers dipped in Bitchin' sauce. It's very good. I can't stop. They have them at Whole Foods and you can also order online, but I get, like, several at a time because I go through them so fast. They are really good.
What would be your last meal on Earth?
I love it – actually the restaurant we went to when we got engaged in Paris – Chez l'Ami Louis. Their fried chicken and potatoes – Pommes Bearnaise – a delicious potato cake with garlic and parsley. And that, to me, is the ultimate comfort food.
Are there any foods you didn't like as a child that you do now?
Tomatoes! When I was a kid, if there were tomato seeds on a lettuce leaf, the whole salad had to be thrown out. I could not be near tomatoes. Now, I eat them like crazy.
