Marcus Rashford tells Man United 'better for him' by Ruben Amorim | Football news
Wantaway Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has been told he has a future at the club by head coach Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim says the club is “better” for Marcus Rashford and promises he is ready to “help” the striker who has been quoted as saying he is ready for a new challenge.
The 27-year-old was left out of United's 2-1 win at Manchester City on Sunday. Argentine midfielder Alejandro Garnacho, 20, was also not in the squad for the Premier League, and new manager Amorim later said his decisions were about keeping his players at a high level.
This has led to widespread speculation about his future and Rashford discussed leaving in an interview on Tuesday.
“For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he told reporter Henry Winter on Tuesday. “When I leave, it won't be 'strong feelings'.”
Amorim was speaking when he was asked on Wednesday if he wanted to keep Rashford in the team. “Yes, because this type of club needs great talents and you have great talent,” he said at a press conference. “So, you just need to perform at a high level and that's what I focus on. I want to help Marcus.
“What I want is to take the best from Marcus Rashford … I want the best from each of them. I want to win and help the team get better.
“We are better with Marcus Rashford and it's as simple as that. We will try different things to push Rashford to the best levels he has shown me before.”
Rashford has a contract until 2028. He has been at the club since the age of seven and is a graduate of United's famous academy, which has produced many of its players such as Bobby Charlton, George Best, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham. In that time he has scored 135 goals in 426 games and won the Europa League, two FA Cups and two League Cups.
But he has struggled for form since signing his new deal in 2023 – scoring just eight goals last season and losing his place in the England squad for which he has played 60 times.
He has scored three goals in six games since being appointed by Amorim in November, but was withdrawn after 56 minutes of his last game against Viktoria Plzen last week and was left out of the squad against City.
