Karen Huger Gets Verdict on DUI Trial After Car Accident
The Real Housewives of Potomac's Karen Huger received a verdict in his DUI case nine months after his Maryland car accident.
Huger, 61, was found guilty of almost all charges except reckless driving, his spokesman said. People on Wednesday, December 18. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 29.
“Although we are disappointed with the judge's decision, we certainly respect their decision and appreciate their time to hear our case,” Huger's lawyer, A. Scott Boldenyou have been told People in a statement on Wednesday. “We continue to reserve the right of Mrs. Huger's appeal and we intend to pursue full justice on his behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and his family at this time.”
Huger was involved in a car accident in Potomac, Maryland, in March. Montgomery County police told TMZ at the time that Huger was driving his 2017 Maserati in an “aggressive manner” in Potomac, Maryland, when he hit a cross sign and a parking sign.
He was never arrested but received several citations from the police at the time. He was later charged with DUI and DWI.
After the accident, Huger released a lengthy statement about his state of mind leading up to the accident.
“Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes in this very scary incident. I'm still in shock from what happened last night but I'm thankful to be alive today. “With the passing of my beloved mother, the grief comes and goes, and as Mother's Day approaches it feels like a tsunami,” he told TMZ in March. “Last night I met my girlfriend at dinner, we talked about emotional topics. I was crying on the way home when I saw a car coming towards me. I swerved to avoid a collision, hit a divider and hit a tree. I'm hurt, a little hurt, but I'm so thankful that I'm alive! I received citations, one of which was not related to the incident understandably, but the most surprising thing was that the car that almost hit me just drove off!”
He concluded: “I would like to emphasize, it is important to understand your emotional state when driving and may this be a reminder to all to use their seat belts. My mother may be my guardian angel, but the belt saved my life.”
During Huger's trial, body camera footage showed him saying he had been “hammered” and appearing to slur his words.
Several witnesses also testified during the trial, including an EMT who said Huger refused treatment at the scene of the accident and “flabbergasted” when he tried to get into the ambulance.
Huger was an original cast member The Real Housewives of Potomac since its premiere in 2016. The Bravo reality show is currently in its ninth season, which premiered in October, and follows the aftermath of a DUI.
