Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced a new billboard campaign Thursday to warn would-be illegal immigrants about the “horrific” reality of human trafficking, violence and the dangers they face if they try to enter the US illegally.

Abbott said the state is putting up dozens of warning signs in several languages ​​across Mexico and Central America.

“We are here to reveal the truth to immigrants who are thinking of coming here, the truth about smugglers who abuse many women and children along the way,” said the governor. “The message is: Don't risk a dangerous journey just to get arrested and deported.”

Abbott, who recently made another trip to the border with border chief Tom Homan, reiterated that the new Trump administration will “prioritize the deportation of apprehended illegal immigrants.”

The governor made his announcement at a farm on the southern border. He was standing next to a burnt “rape tree”, where property owners say immigrant women were regularly raped. Abbott said the billboards “tell the alarming stories of human trafficking” and “inform potential illegal immigrants of the reality of what will happen to them if they attempt to enter Texas illegally.”
