Holger Rune advances to third quarter-final in a row at Swiss Indoor Basel.

Holger Rune continued his good form at the Swiss Indoor Basel on Thursday with a statement win against Dominic Stricker.
The fourth seed outlasted the Swiss wild card 6-3, 7-6(2) in one hour, 27 minutes. Rune, a 2022 finalist, came back from a break down in the second set to take an unassailable lead at the break.
“It was a good level for my team in the first set, but I lost a little focus in the second when he broke me,” said Rune, who went 9-2 in Basel. “He was playing very fast, rushing me, so I had to step up my footwork and be more active with my legs.
“I had to stay there and find a solution, so I did. I connected with the other returnees, I was able to bring back the break and everything was open.”

The 21-year-old found success when he stepped up to the court, winning 78 percent (14/18) of points at the net, according to Infosys ATP Stats. Rune will next face loser David Goffin, who produced a historic upset of five-star Ugo Humbert on Wednesday evening.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard ended Felix Auger-Aliassime's run in Basel. The Frenchman defeated the two-time defending champion with his crafty net play, winning 6-1, 7-6(6).
Coach Perricard won 87 percent (13/15) of the points after his debut with a flawless first set before taking the lead in a tight break.
Auger-Aliassime, who lifted the trophy in 2022 and 2023, wanted to become the first player born in 1991 or later to win three ATP Tour events.
Coach Perricard will meet Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals. The Canadian showed glimpses of his impressive tennis with a 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Roberto Bautista Agut, ending the Spaniard's run to the title in Antwerp last week.
