A man causes an alarm in the center of a German city with a plastic gun
With Germany on edge after an attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg, a gunman caused a stir in the northern town of Hamelin on Tuesday.
The suspect, 23, was reportedly walking in the pedestrian zone in the city center carrying a plastic gun, said a police spokesperson.
This area was also the site of Hamelin's Christmas market, although it was closed at that time.
This man did not threaten anyone, and there was no particular danger, but the toy gun seemed like a real weapon.
The police are reported to have been deployed with a large number of officers following many reports from people who were visiting.
The suspect was taken to the police station and admitted to a mental hospital, according to the woman's spokesperson.
