Virgin River they finally let Mel and Jack go down the aisle during the season 6 finale — along with the stars Alexandra Breckenridge again Martin Henderson they look back on their fond memories of the big day.

“Watching Martin cry every time I walk down the hall,” Breckenridge, 42, shared exclusively in the latest issue of. Us Weekly. “I wasn't crying. I said, 'Hey, where are my tears?' You know, tears of joy. I said, 'Where are those?' But every time I walked down the hall, he got everything [misty eyed]. He was really sympathetic, and it was very nice.”

After six seasons of breakups and make-ups, a faux paternity test and a heartbreaking pregnancy loss, Mel (Breckenridge) and Jack (Henderson) said “I do” surrounded by their friends and family at the end of season 6. It was an emotional moment for everyone involved in the series, and while Breckenridge managed to keep his eyes dry, Henderson explained why the moment touched him so deeply.

“Obviously, I invested a lot of energy and emotion into the character of Jack and his love for Mel, which is kind of the crux of the show in a way,” he said. “So to finally get to that moment, and for Mel to come up glowing and so beautiful, I felt that love that I think these characters have for each other. It was really moving.”

How the wedding was shot, Henderson added, felt “beautiful” and “soft” for the two characters, who have been through a lot together. “I was frustrated and upset about it. It was very moving,” Henderson continued. “It's been six seasons before that. … I poured my heart and soul into it [Mel and Jack] and I was so happy for Jack to have this woman as his wife and what that means to him.”

Henderson noted how important this moment was to fans as well, who knew Mel and Jack were soul mates in the pilot. “They are together,” he said. “The audience knows that when he walks into a bar [in the pilot]. So it was like the end of all that energy and love and affection and emotions that existed between them for six seasons.”

Henderson wasn't the only person feeling the waves of emotion. Breckenridge said most of the people who attended the event were in tears.

“I think a lot of people were crying,” he said Us. “Like, with [Mel’s father-like figure] Doctor [played by Tim Matheson] walking me down the path … when I was making my vows, I could hear a sniffle behind me.”

While Henderson will likely remember Jack's wedding day for the rest of his life, there is one moment from season 6 that he chooses to forget: singing Big & Rich's “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” to Breckenridge.

“I really blocked that out of my mind,” said Henderson at the time, who saw Jack undress while wearing a cowboy hat. “That was one of the most painful moments of my life, let alone my career.”

All jokes aside, Henderson wanted to make sure the scene felt true to who Jack was as a character – which is why he turned down the chance to have a professional stop the dance and instead relied on his creative freedom.

They said, 'Do you want to draw it?' And I thought, 'Oh, yes, I do. I definitely need help.' But then I got closer to the first meeting and I thought about it. I was like, 'Wait, that's going to look really weird. Jack Sheridan, a Marine, bar owner from Virgin River just goes out of his way Magic Mikeperfectly chosen gyrating? That would look funny. It will look silly.' So I said, 'You know what? No, forget about it. Just play the song.'”

What resulted from that decision was an instant fan-favorite and standout moment of all six seasons, which Henderson described as Jack's attempt to “please his drunk fiancee” after there were no undressers at his Bachelorette party. Fortunately for Henderson, Breckenridge was the perfect stage partner to help him feel comfortable being vulnerable — especially when the production had to cut the music mid-recording.

“There was a little bit of dialogue, unfortunately, related between the lines. So to get the sound of his lines and my lines, we couldn't play music,” he said Us. “It was very embarrassing. I was dying. No music, no rhythm. I'm just doing this silly dance. But I will say, Alexandra Breckenridge was kind and there and she played against me with joy and fun,” he said. And that's why I think I finally decided, 'This has to be the two of them really enjoying each other.'

The wedding (and the bachelor/bachelorette chaos) was undoubtedly the highlight of season 6, but Mel and Jack were on their own journey, too. Breckenridge was particularly invested in the story of Mel and her biological father, Everett (John Allen Nelson), whom he reunited with at the end of season 5. The two broke up Virgin River Season 6 saw them get to know each other while reconnecting over their mutual love for Mel's mother, Sarah, who died when she was 11.

“I found it very touching, especially because I know what it's like to lose your mother,” said Breckenridge, who is a mother herself. Us. “So I quickly connected on that level. I have always been there [Mel]but what he experienced emotionally by finding his father and being able to have this light is what his mother was like. [was special].”

Although Mel and Everett hit a few bumps in the road while trying to find their new normal, their dynamic evolved quickly throughout the season, and it's something Breckenridge looks forward to continuing in season 7.

“I'm looking forward to seeing where that goes,” he told us. “I love how Mel is trying to open up her relationship with her father, and she keeps trying to push him away because I think she doesn't want to deal with the loss again. You know, many times people who lose people, are afraid to love anyone again, because they are afraid, they will go through that pain. But you can't live without it, you know? It's not life if you don't love anymore.”

While Mel continued her new relationship with her father, Jack was also on his own personal journey, which Henderson believes was about making “peace and coming to terms with what his military background meant to him then, but also what it means to him now.”

“We saw him struggling when he had to reconnect with his ex-wife. Even the award given to him, he almost despises that thing and runs away from the idea that it was a good thing,” he explained. “And you are throwing the bathwater at the baby because there is pain and regret about some of the things that have happened.”

Henderson noted that Jack was once again forced to balance his negative feelings about his time in the military while also supporting Ricky (Grayson Maxwell Guernsey), who returned to Virgin River before being sent away. “Jack is trying to stay on course and always support and not put this poor kid down. [Ricky’s] he already has his insecurities and his fears, and Jack tries to say, 'Oh, it's okay. I was afraid too.' And there's this gray area around that, and Jack, emotionally, and he doesn't know how he feels.”

Both Mel and Jack's story lines will likely continue in season 7, but the two will also face many more obstacles together. The final moments of season 6 saw the two stuck on a cliff, with pregnant teenager Marley (Rachel Drance) announcing that she wants Mel and Jack to adopt her unborn child. Jack, on the other hand, went to look for the missing Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) and finds her house broken into before opening her newborn twins' bedroom and discovers something shocking – a revelation the audience has never seen before.
