Texas lawyers seek answers over deadly crash allegedly caused by illegal immigrant: 'Outrageous'
FIRST ON FOX: Texas lawmakers are seeking more information from the federal government about an alleged illegal immigrant accused of killing a U.S. citizen while allegedly driving under the influence.
35-year-old Jorge Peralta is accused of crashing into three cars on October 13 in a crash that killed Grayson Davis, 29. Peralta is accused of fleeing and resisting arrest, according to CBS Austin,
The outlet reported that he admitted to drinking five beers before driving, and is now being held as an ICE detainer.

Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and State Rep. Stan Gerdes, said they were told that Peralta is an illegal immigrant who was deported under the Obama and Trump administrations, but he said he returned illegally in 2021.
The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office confirmed in their office that they reported the suspect to ICE, and that they have arrested him.
“When ICE arrests someone, it's because that person is an illegal immigrant, and they have an interest in them,” said Sheriff Maurice Cook.
BIDEN ADMIN FACED RESPONSE TO 'SIGNIFICANT CRASH' OF ATTACKS ON BORDER PATROL AGENTS
Now, lawmakers want to know how the suspect re-entered after multiple deportations, whether immigration authorities know he lives in the country, and what possible loopholes in law enforcement allowed him to re-enter the US.
ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but attorneys have blamed the alien's presence on the Biden administration.
“Another family's worst nightmare has come to pass, and it's because of the reckless, open border policies of the Biden-Harris Administration,” said Rep. Cloud in the statement.
“Their refusal to enforce our immigration laws has taken another innocent life. How many American citizens must be killed by illegal immigrants before Joe Biden and Kamala Harris make up their minds?”
“Yet another Texan died directly because of the Biden-Harris border issue,” Cruz said. “Texans need answers about why this illegal alien was allowed back into our country after being deported twice. This crime was outrageous and avoidable, but the Biden-Harris administration made the wrong decision to keep the border open for political purposes. The result of these avoidable, outrageous crimes and you are not welcome.”
Gerdes said that the public was saddened by this incident and said that he will push for a law that will deal with the entry of people who enter the country illegally at the government level. All three lawyers said they want a full investigation into the suspect's immigration history.
The case comes amid a heated debate over illegal immigration. Republicans have tied the border crisis and the resulting crime to a rollback of Trump-era policies by the Biden administration.
They say ending construction of the border wall, ending “Remain-in-Mexico” and reducing ICE deportations have encouraged border crossings. Former President Trump has promised, if he is re-elected, to begin the process of deporting more people.

The Biden administration has called for passage of a bipartisan border security bill introduced in January, which many Republicans oppose, to increase funding and limit further entry into the US.
It pointed to a sharp decline in border negotiations since President Biden signed an executive order in June limiting immigration. Prices have since fallen by more than 55%. The agency also says it completed more than 700,000 removals or reinstatements in FY 24, the most since 2010.
