Sabalenka Remains at No.1:

Sabalenka will need to reach the QF to have any chance of retaining the No.1 ranking, although that could change as Swiatek progresses through the tournament.

Swiatek Reaches No.1 when…

If Swiatek reaches the third round, Sabalenka will need to reach SF. If Swiatek reaches SF then Sabalenka must reach the finals.

If No.1 and No.2 meet in the final then the winner gets No.1…

Should Swiatek and Sabalenka meet in the final, the winner will come from Australia ranked PIF WTA World No.1 Swiatek, having reached the third round last year in Melbourne, defends only 130 points at the Australian Open, compared to Sabalenka . 2000 championship points. He could defend the No.1 ranking in the early stages of the tournament with the early exits of Gauff and Sabalenka.

Answer from Gauff:

The only way Gauff can move up to No.1 would be if he wins the title and Sabalenka loses in the QF or earlier and Swiatek doesn't go past the third round.
