“It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of Jeff Baena, a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle and friend to many,” Baena's obituary, published in the history book. While the obit honored Baena for her credits in the entertainment industry, her loved ones shared details of how she discovered her love for her “favorite” movie when she was “11 years old watching. A Clockwork Orange and Felini 8 1/2.”

“Each of his films exhibits a carefully crafted balance of logic and mystery. His combination of intelligence and creativity challenges us. “He then embraced independent filmmaking because of his constant distaste for institutional surveillance,” the message continued. “Those who have worked with him praise his vision, his taste, his technical ability, and the ability to bring the actors together into a group that plays in perfect harmony. There was always a family atmosphere. He loved nature and highlighted it with images in his films whenever and wherever possible.”

In addition to work, which he did a lot with Plaza, Baena “loved the company of his friends.”

“Jeff was a true relationship builder with a gift for bringing people together on and off the film set,” the obit said. “His magic sauce ensured that everyone was happy and no one ever left his gatherings as a stranger.”

Baena's biography also revealed that he was also associated with this novel, The Little Princeand included a touching quote from a popular children's book.

“When he was a boy, Jeff loved to read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Ironically, to him, the Little Prince exclaims, 'I don't have much time. I have friends to meet and many things to learn.' And so it was with Jeff,” the post read.

Baena is survived by Plaza, his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.

“We will always love and miss Jeff deeply,” the obit concluded. “His presence and his work make the world feel better. He had a lot to offer. Alas, all that is gone. Sweet dreams, our Little Prince.”

Baena died on January 3. He was 47 years old. According to the medical examiner's records reviewed by Us WeeklyBaena's official cause of death is listed as suicide. After news of Baena's passing broke, a representative for the Plaza released a statement on his behalf.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” the statement read Us learn. “We are very grateful to everyone who has given us funding. Please respect our privacy at this time.”
