Brooke Shields Remembers Friends Set Joke 'Getting Canceled' Today

Brooke Shields remembers the “inside joke” from Friends set it to “cancelled” for today.

While on set, Shields said he was eager to have fun with the show's famous actors – LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and late Matthew Perry – and copied a risqué joke that Perry used to make. However, he admits that he probably won't fly today.

“You go to a high-fat and successful program … I was such a fan. All I wanted was for them to love me,” explained the actor on Monday, January 13, onwards Watching. “I just wanted to be funny. But I wasn't in the group. They were very strong. They had all these inside jokes.”

“I watched and they have this inside joke that they do a lot, and Matthew Perry did it,” Shields continued. “And I thought, 'If I can make him laugh, it's going to be so much fun.'”

Admitting that “you couldn't do it now, you're going to get canceled,” Shields explained that Perry was sliding down “in front of the girl and pretending to lift her skirt.”

“Also, it will be canceled today,” he insisted.

To the delight of the cast, Shields turned the tables on Perry.

“I ran at high speed from one end of the stage to the other, threw myself down, and pretended to look up the leg of my pants,” he recalled. “Everyone was quiet. I was down and I said, 'I'm just breastfeeding! I look like a crazy person!' I sat down for about an hour, but about one second, and suddenly he started laughing, and they all started laughing.”

Shields also recalled the anecdote in his new book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Oldpublished on Tuesday, January 14.

“That afternoon they invited me to have lunch with them and go to the gym at the gym,” Shields wrote, in a quote published by Real Simple. “I was successful in Hollywood! And in the episode itself, my willingness to embrace the crazy and go hard for a laugh makes an impression, too. The day after the show aired, I got a call asking me to do my own sitcom, Soon Susan.”

Perry died at his home in Los Angeles in October 2023 at the age of 54. His official cause of death was later found to be “extreme effects of ketamine,” which is used to treat opioid use.
