Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler gave the fans in Vienna something to cheer about on Sunday when they won their second title at the Erste Bank Open.

The Austrians, victorious in a strong ATP 500 field in 2022, combined to defeat Neal Skupski and Michael Venus 4-6, 6-3, 10-1. With the one-hour, 25-minute win, the duo made it eight in a row after lifting the trophy in Antwerp last week.

“The crowd is crazy today. With 10,000 people, it was unbelievable and we are very happy with the way the game ended,” said Medler. “Now is the time to celebrate. We were able to serve well [in the Match Tie-break]link to returns. It's amazing to play a 10-1 break against them.”

Erler and Miedler took a break lead in the first set, but lost four straight games to fall behind in the championship match. Undeterred, they bounced back with a well-fought second set, where they produced some impressive tennis on their way back to swing the momentum in their favor in the Match Tie-break.

Buoyed by the home support at a sold-out Wiener Stadthalle, Erler and Miedler finished with aplomb to seal their eighth ATP Tour title as a team, winning 12 of the last 13 points.

With their run to the championship match in Vienna, Skupski and Venus reached 13th place in the PIF ATP Doubles Teams Rankings. Their impressive season was supported by back-to-back titles on British turf in Eastbourne and London.

Murray/Peers close out the Basel crown
Qualifiers Jamie Murray and John Peers capped off a strong week by winning their first title together this year at Swiss Indoor Basel.

The British-Australian duo produced a clinical performance in the championship match to upset top seeds Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic 6-3, 7-5.

“It's been a crazy week for us,” said Murray, who saved three points in their first playoff game. “We managed to fight until today, it was a really tough game. There were many opportunities for both teams to back down from serving. Everyone was coming back well and putting a lot of pressure on the server and we were able to hang tough in the end.

“It's been a battle and we're very happy to win and end a tough year.”

Murray and Peers first teamed up in 2013, combining for six ATP Tour titles together over three years. After spending eight years with different partners, they reunited in August this year.

“We've been building and working hard since we got back to America,” Peers added. “I think it's a reward for all the hard work we've done.

With the loss, Koolhof and Mektic remain fifth in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, 368 points ahead of eighth-placed Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten. They won the Nitto ATP Finals in 2020 and are in strong contention to return to Turin for Koolhof's final season as a professional.
