Israeli military strikes in the towns of Jabalia, Beit Hanoon and Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza have so far killed around 800 people in the three-week offensive, the Gaza Health Ministry said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was “shocked by the appalling levels of death, injury and destruction” in northern Gaza.
“The plight of Palestinian citizens trapped in Northern Gaza is unbearable,” Guterres' spokesman said.
As the death toll from Israel's reprisal campaign in Gaza approaches 43,000 since the war began on October 7, with the enclave in ruins, fresh talks to end the war have begun in Doha.
On Sunday, directors of the CIA and Israel's Mossad intelligence agency traveled to Qatar to meet with Qatar's prime minister to discuss a ceasefire. Egyptian officials also participated in the talks.
Separately, Egyptian President Adel Fattah el-Sisi proposed a two-day ceasefire in Gaza to exchange Israeli hostages and some Palestinian prisoners.
Meanwhile, in Lebanon on Sunday, the Israeli army continued its airstrikes in the capital Beirut south of the city after warning residents of many areas to leave their homes.
Israeli forces are also targeting southern Lebanon. At least eight people were killed and 25 injured in an Israeli airstrike in the coastal city of Sidon in southern Lebanon. Lebanese officials say at least 21 people were attacked by Israel in southern Lebanon.
In retaliation, Hezbollah has been launching attacks across the border into northern Israel.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in London but stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire. Washington provides weapons and communications cover to Israel, which has been condemned for violating the laws of war.
