3 dead, 2 seriously injured as fire roars through home in LA

A terrible fire broke out in a house in Tempelini on Sunday night, killing three people and seriously injuring two, authorities said.

The LA County Fire Department received a call about a house fire in the 6000 block of Sultana Avenue at 4:49 p.m., said spokesman Fred Fielding. Firefighters arrived at the scene in less than five minutes, saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the building and began to rescue, he said.

Three people were found dead inside the home, but firefighters were able to rescue two additional victims and take them to local hospitals.

“See [firefighters] they did an outstanding job and were able to get those two patients treated and transported,” said Fielding. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to them. They are seriously injured, but I hope they will make it.”

After the rescue, firefighters rushed to try to stop the fire, he said, cutting a hole in the roof of the house to let out the heat and smoke. They then focused on getting more water out of the building as quickly as possible and extinguished the fire by 5:20 p.m.

The Fire Department's arson team will work with the LA County Sheriff's Department to investigate the cause of the fire and the deaths, Fielding said. No other information about the five victims was immediately available.
