Two people were arrested near the Kamala Harris rally, DC police said

Authorities in Washington, DC arrested two suspects for allegedly assaulting a police officer near Vice President Kamala Harris' rally on Tuesday night.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) told Fox News Digital that their arrest occurred around 7:00 pm in the area of ​​17th St. and Constitution Ave., Northwest, located a few blocks south of the White House.

The suspects – one man and one woman – were arrested right outside the Ellipse, the park where Harris was holding his rally. A campaign event was underway when the two were arrested, and Harris took the stage at around 7:40 p.m.

An MPD spokesperson said someone “attempted to cross the police line near the intersection of 15th Street and Constitution Avenue, Northwest.” 17th St. and 15. St. along Constitution Ave the western and eastern corners of the Ellipse, respectively.

“This person ignored the policeman's instructions,” explained the official. “When the police tried to remove the woman, she started beating the policeman.”

“The second one came from behind the police and beat them,” said the statement. “Both were arrested without incident and were also charged with assaulting a police officer. The arresting officers were not injured.”

It is not clear whether those arrested were Harris supporters, protesters or had nothing to do with the rally. At least one protester was detained at the event amid pro-Palestinian protests.

Protesters were seen wearing keffiyehs and carrying signs reading “Stop Arming Israel,” and “Stop US Funding of Israel Apartheid,” in the crowd. The MPD did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital inquiry about the arrests of the protesters.

On Tuesday, The Lincoln Project made a negative post about the X meeting. The group criticized former President Trump for making the Ellipse “a crime scene.”

“Kamala Harris Closes Arguments Rally on the Ellipse Tonight,” the caption read. “Four years ago Trump made it a crime scene, but tonight Kamala is making room to present a new way forward.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.
