Republicans react to Biden's 'garbage' comments as Trump-Harris 2024 election approaches
President Joe Biden lashed out at what appeared to be a blow to Trump's campaign just one week before the election, calling Trump voters “trashy.”
It's the same as before the 2016 election when Hillary Clinton called Trump supporters “deplorables.”
Just like eight years ago, Republicans are once again circling the wagons and using the term “garbage” to end Vice President Kamala Harris' bid for president.
BIDEN CALLS TRUMP SUPPORTERS 'TRASH' DURING HARRIS CAMPAIGN AS VP PLEDGES UNITY AT ELLIPSE RALLY
Here is what happened. During a campaign for Harris and Voto Latino, one of the largest Latino voter and advocacy groups in the US, Biden was asked about comedian Tony Hinchcliffe who, during Trump's Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden, called Puerto Rico a “floating. trash island.”
“The only garbage I see floating around is his supporters,” Biden said of Trump on Tuesday. “[Trump’s] the demonization of Latinos is irrational and un-American.”
Republicans came out in large numbers to criticize the president's words.
“Add this to the “basket of deplorables” and “Nazis” who insult Americans. Why do so many Democrat leaders hate so many Americans?” Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt said.
“Trash? What they say actually says more about them. What are we going to do about it? Get to WORK. Elect @realDonaldTrump. Elect Republicans. Call our friends and neighbors to VOTE!,” South Carolina Governor Tim Scott. said.
TRUMP WANTS SUPPORTERS TO 'FORGIVE' BID TO SHOW UNITY AFTER PRESIDENT CALLS SUPPORTERS 'TRASH'
“As a Republican member of Congress, I have met many of my constituents who are Democrats, Libertarians, NPA, and Independents. I will NOT call them trash. What are you doing @POTUS?” Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna tweeted.
“Holy s***. The media spent the week crying over the comedian's joke. Meanwhile, Tim Walz called Trump supporters Nazis. Kamala Harris refused to criticize it. And now Kamala's biggest Democratic supporter, Joe Biden, is calling all Trump supporters “trash. ” Donald Trump Jr. wrote.
“Tonight, the sitting Democratic President of the United States has just called Trump's supporters “scum.” After two failed attempts to assassinate Trump followed by the DNC the country is running the media teaching Republicans to “tone down,” Texas lawmaker Wesley Hunt said. .
“A mother mourning the death of her son from a fentanyl overdose is not trash. A truck driver who can't afford a diesel hike is not trash. A father who wants to buy food is not trash. Kamala Harris and Joe Biden should be ashamed of themselves,” wrote vice president JD Vance.
