The Georgia GOP is threatening a lawsuit against deep-blue Fulton County for expanded absentee voting
Georgia Republicans vowed to sue the Democratic base in Fulton County after announcing extended election hours on Friday.
The threat came after the state GOP learned that election officials in the region, including Atlanta, plan to open four election offices this weekend “to accommodate voters who want to hand-in their absentee ballots.”
“This is a clear violation of Georgia law . . . which states that 'all ballot boxes shall be closed at the end of the voting period,'” the Georgia GOP said in a statement late Friday.
Fulton County is expected to be key to the Democrats' chances of winning Georgia again in 2024 – something the Republicans alluded to in their statement.

“To make matters worse, the four polling stations are in precincts that will favor Democratic candidates,” the statement said.
Fulton County is one of those that has announced it will keep election offices open this weekend for voters to turn in their absentee ballots.
Drop boxes are a way for voters to turn in their absentee ballots at election offices without contacting people, which is different from delivering them to the office itself.
Drop-off boxes have been available during Georgia's early voting period since Oct. 15 to Nov. 1.
But Republicans argue that the extended weekend absentee voting period violates state law.

Judge Kevin Farmer said the case was still pending further investigation but declined to order emergency measures to force more Republican operatives into office on Tuesday.
