Katrina Law's NCIS and Brian Dietzen Talk Knight and Palmer's Romance

Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer finally had “the talk” about their relationship this week NCIS episode – but their fate may not be set in stone.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from NCIS season 22, episode 4.

“It takes a possible nuclear war for them to talk about their feelings,” Brian Dietzen46, specifically told Us Weekly for a key moment during Monday's episode, November 4, where his character, Dr. Jimmy Palmer, finally discussing his future with Special Agent Knight (Katrina Law), while off the grid when the FBI took over their NCIS office.

“They're forced into a situation where they can't avoid each other and have to talk about their relationship,” said Law, 39, during a joint interview, noting that the two “put their hearts on their sleeves, which is very typical of a relationship.”

Law noted that it was Knight who “opened the door” to a potential rekindled romance, asking Palmer if she was interested in getting back together.

“Is anything going to change?” Knight asks in this episode, noting that the “one thing” left is that the two are still in love. “Wouldn't it be nice if it was enough?” he added.

Palmer, however, pointed out that “they both have things that we need to work on.” He made Knight cry when he said he deserved someone who would “destroy future careers” with him, like “Indiana Jones,” but admitted, “That's not me … at least not yet.”

Knight understood where he was coming from and pointed out that Palmer deserved the “safety” he couldn't give him.

“He closes it gently and says, 'I still don't think we're ready. None of us. I think we both need things that the other person can't give us right now,'” Law said exclusively Us of a sad event. “Which is still true. The door hasn't hit the floor yet, but it's closed well for now.”

Dietzen added that despite the fact that the two have confirmed that they have separated – they called it quits at the end of season 21 when Knight went to work in California – the actors “will always be in love.”

The actor explained that moving forward, there will be obstacles, teasing reconciliation is not completely off the table.

“Finding a way to navigate that, how to find happiness as friends and maybe find happiness with other people, in a romantic way will lead to some really awkward scenes,” Dietzen said.

He also said, “It's not like the door is closed on a romance at some point, but man, the twists and turns are going to have to happen for that to happen.”

Although Law revealed that he asked the writers to “have a date with Jimmy” so that he could have a few “weirdly weird” scenes, he admitted that the future wasn't written for them.

“Of course it's still looking between Jimmy and Knight. The attraction is still there and, you know, these two are still looking at each other randomly throughout the series,” she said in the next few episodes. “It hasn't gone yet. … People get along, sometimes it works out, some people keep breaking up and getting back together, breaking up, getting back together. Even if they just break up, there is always something.”

Law has played lightly about where Knight and Palmer lie in relation to the romance he describes, but he tells himself Us“There is definitely a subtle attraction and love between them that you will feel throughout the season.”

Dietzen agreed, saying that as he and Law move forward in the 22nd season they should get “an extra layer” of flexibility for their characters.

“Is there a line to cross again? Or is that set in stone or will we never step foot there again?” he asked, admitting that broadcasters “don't tell us” what they think.

Law, however, teased that fans should not give up hope that Knight and Shining Palmer will return.

“They promised us fun later in the season and going forward,” he said Us of the writers, adding, “I'm excited to see what it is.”
