The interim manager leaves after four games in charge of United as new manager Ruben Amorim arrives in Manchester.
Ruud van Nistelrooy's contract with Manchester United has come to an end, the club confirmed a day after the Dutchman led the team to a 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League in his fourth game as interim manager.
Van Nistelrooy's departure was announced on Monday as Ruben Amorim arrived in Manchester as United's full-time manager.
“Ruud is a Manchester United legend, and will always be a legend,” the club said in a statement.
“We appreciate his contribution and the way he viewed his role throughout his time with the team. He will always be welcome at Old Trafford.”
United assistants Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel also left on Monday, with the Old Trafford club saying they will announce Amorim's staff at a later date.
The 48-year-old van Nistelrooy has guided United to three wins and a draw in all competitions since the sacking of Erik ten Hag, and the former United striker has repeatedly expressed his hope to stay at the club after Amorim's arrival.

Upon his arrival in Manchester, Amorim, 39, was welcomed with a hug by Chief Executive Omar Berrada.
The Portuguese will meet with key staff until his visa is approved and he can enter the field as a coach. The group said the visa is expected soon.
Van Nistelrooy joined the Hag's ten-man staff late in the season as an assistant before taking over as interim manager. He was cheered on by the fans at Old Trafford after Sunday's win.
