Sylvester Stallone calls Trump the second 'George Washington' at AFPI Gala
Actor and filmmaker Sylvester Stallone introduced President-elect Donald Trump at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) Gala on Thursday with a short and sweet speech in which he called Trump “the second George Washington.”
The “Rocky” actor was the last speaker of the night – speaking for only about two minutes – before the president-elect took the stage at Mar-a-Lago.
When he started his speech, Stallone started talking about his character “Rocky” and how he will “deal with change and change lives, like President Trump.”
“We are in front of a truly legendary character. No one in the world could pull off what he pulled off, so I was surprised,” he said.

He went on to compare Trump to George Washington and how his devotion to America changed the world.
“When George Washington defended his country, he didn't know he was going to change the world because without him, you can imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We got a second George Washington. Congratulations!” Stallone says this before Lee Greenwood's “God Bless the USA” starts playing.
After a brief pause, Trump walked on stage to Stallone's introduction and shook hands while saying a few words to the actor.

While Stallone has been very quiet about his politics in recent years and admitted that he did not vote in the 2016 and 2020 elections, he told Variety magazine in 2016 that he likes Trump.
“I love Donald Trump,” he said at the time. “There are some people like Arnold [Schwarzenegger]Babe Ruth, that's bigger than life. But I don't know how that translates to managing the world.”

Stallone did not publicly endorse Trump during the 2024 election cycle, but he did answer a FaceTime call from Fox News' Brett Baier in October and encouraged Pennsylvania voters to “keep on hitting.”
His speech at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday marks the first time he has publicly expressed his views on a Trump presidency.
