After two years together, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden finished with a flourish on Friday at the Nitto ATP Finals.
The Indian-Australian pair downed Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 7-5, 6-7(6), 10-7 to end their 2024 campaign at the premier season finale in Turin with victory. Already out of the running for a semi-final place after two defeats this week, Bopanna and Ebden came out firing before responding well by conceding two match points in the second tie-break. They ended up winning a one-hour, 42-minute Match Tie-break victory in the final match of their partnership.
Bopanna and Ebden propelled themselves to victory with the help of 14 aces, according to Infosys ATP Stats. With the win, they tied their Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Krawietz and Puetz at 2-2.
Bopanna and Ebden have enjoyed great success since teaming up for the first time in January 2023. They have lifted four tour-level titles together, including this year's Australian Open, while each has spent time as No. 1 in the PIF ATP Doubles Rankings during their partnership.
Despite Friday's loss, Krawietz and Puetz can now look forward to a semi-final appearance in their first Nitto ATP Finals. The German boys, who finished the group stage 2-1, must wait for tonight's match between Marcelo Arevalo/Mate Pavic and Simone Bolelli/Andrea Vavassori to find out if they finish first or second in the Bob Bryan Group.
