San Francisco kids, 12 years old, caught stealing more than $84K in merchandise: police

A group of delinquents – as young as 12 – have been arrested for allegedly carrying out a robbery in San Francisco, netting $84,000 in stolen goods, police said.

According to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), authorities have arrested eight shoplifting suspects who they believe are responsible for 23 incidents at various Walgreens stores. This group included an 18-year-old, one 12-year-old, three 14-year-olds, and three 15-year-olds.

Authorities have successfully pieced together a string of Bay Area robberies that have plagued the city since July.

Police identified the older suspect as Brandon McClain, 18, who was arrested on suspicion of theft and shoplifting. He was also arrested for allegedly stealing a car this month with a 15-year-old child, police said.

The 12-year-old boy from San Francisco has been charged with assault, robbery, burglary, grand theft, organized theft and petty theft, according to Fox 11.

The other suspects are 14 and 15 years old and were facing different charges of theft.

Authorities say the other incident involved the brutal beating of a store employee, leaving the victim with “serious head injuries,” according to SFPD.

In another robbery on September 29, juveniles allegedly broke into a store and stole $15,000 in merchandise. A few hours later, the group returned to raid and stole another $12,000 in property, according to police.

On August 18, the suspects entered another Walgreens and stole more than $6,500 in merchandise. During the robbery, police said one of the suspects jumped over the front counter and stole a cash book.

In another shocking incident, police said during a raid in July, masked suspects met outside a Walgreens store and employees realized they were thieves and called the police. The suspect allegedly forced open the door to the employees and took more than $1,300 worth of property.

A review of the incident led detectives from the SFPD Burglary-Organized Retail Crime Unit to link the incidents.

The police found similarities in the descriptions of the suspects and the modus operandi (MO).
