Mammoth Mountain is covered in snow – the most for the month of November in over a decade
Mammoth Mountain experienced its warmest November snowfall since 2010, with a major storm dumping nearly 50 inches on the Eastern Sierra resort earlier this week, the National Weather Service said Thursday.
The system that passed through the area Nov. 23 to 26 brought about 50 inches of snow. In total, the mountain received 62 inches this month, the resort said. That's one inch more than November 2022, which started a record winter season for the area.
“This is really important – the first major storm of the season,” said meteorologist Gigi Giralte.
Thanksgiving weekend will be dry on the mountain: Giralte said no snow is forecast for Sunday. That means the 88 inches of snow Mammoth received in November 2010 will remain the monthly record throughout this century.
In the Southland, Thursday's cool weather will last through the weekend, with highs in the mid-to-low 70s. Sunday, it could reach 80 degrees, meteorologist Ryan Kittell said.
