Evacuation warnings have been lifted in Riverside; the wildfire is partially contained
Officials lifted evacuation warnings as firefighters made some progress containing a wildfire near Jurupa Valley that started Thanksgiving Day.
By Friday afternoon, the Canyon Crest fire had spread to about 250 acres since it was first reported south of the Riverside and San Bernardino county line, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
More than 200 firemen attended the fire and on Friday afternoon they managed to contain 15% of it, officials said. Containment refers to which part of the wildfire cycle is surrounded by a natural or man-made control line.
The development led officials to lift evacuation warnings in the Jurupa Valley. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Warnings for people to leave started last night as some houses are said to have been burnt. The fire as of Thursday evening has covered 84 acres and is 0% contained overnight, in the area east of County Village Road and west of Sierra Avenue.
