A deputy and a police officer were seriously injured in a crash during a traffic stop in Fort Pierce
FORT PIERCE — A sheriff's deputy and a city police officer suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries in a crash in Fort Pierce Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
This incident happened when the Deputy Sheriff of St. Lucie County and Fort Pierce police were standing outside their vehicles during a traffic jam at US 1 and North 25th Street. At 11:25 p.m. Saturday, a 41-year-old Vero Beach man was driving northbound on 25th Street in the right lane, when he reportedly failed to yield and struck the rear of a police officer's vehicle, FHP said.
The impact caused the deputy's vehicle to cross two other police vehicles and into the two officers, FHP said.
The driver involved in the crash, whose name has not been released, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, FHP said.
