Canada bans more assault-style weapons, proposes to donate to Ukraine
Canada on Thursday announced a ban on 324 assault rifles in an ongoing push for stricter gun control.
Canadian leaders also said they were working with the Ukrainian government to see how weapons could be donated to support the fight against Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“Every help we can give to the people of Ukraine is one step towards their victory,” said Defense Minister Bill Blair.
The latest restriction, announced by Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, includes investments in border security in an effort to stop smuggling and people-trafficking, as well as stricter gun control, and tougher penalties for gun smugglers.

“This means that these guns will no longer be used,” said Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc.
The tightening of gun control laws in Canada came after the May 2020 ban of 1,500 brands and types of firearms. Last month, this number grew to over 2,000 as new species were identified.
“Guns designed for the arena do not belong in our communities,” said Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions and Government Affairs. “Too often, these types of weapons have been used to commit some of the worst atrocities Canada has ever seen.”
