Air ticket prices in Germany are expected to increase, according to Jens Bischof, president of the German Aviation Association (BDL).
“Getting to and from Germany will be expensive,” Bischof told Funke Media Group newspapers in a story published on Tuesday.
Although the higher flight tax introduced in May is already reflected in ticket prices, Bischof said that from January, the airport security check fee will increase from €10 ($10.50) to €15 per passenger.
Additionally, rising air traffic control costs are forcing airlines to pass on higher prices to customers, he said.
“Margins are already low. On average, an airline earns only five to 10 euros per passenger,” said Bischof, who also runs the Eurowings airline.
Bischof said discussions with politicians are ongoing to look for ways to reduce costs in the aviation industry.
He called on the incoming German government to end the aviation tax without change and to abandon the country's autonomous approach to the e-kerosene quota.
From 2025, airlines from the EU are required to source an average of 2% of their fuel from sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), this will rise to 70% by 2050.
He also called for the cancellation of the increase in money that was planned for security control.
