Rivals Season 2 Questions We Need Answered: Is Rupert, Taggie Date?
Competitors left many questions unanswered, including whether Rupert and Taggie will start dating – and if Tony is really dead.
Based on Jilly Coopernovel of the same name, Disney+ and Hulu's Rivals focuses on the conflict between two men fighting for control of a television station in 1980s Britain. Rivals compete with the unifying team Aidan Turner, David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Bella MacLean, Nafessa Williams, Katherine Parkinson, Victoria Smurfit, Emily Atack again Danny Dyer.
The first season ended with many cliffhangers after Declan (Turner), Rupert (Hassell) and Freddie's (Dyer) Venturer beat Tony's (Tennant) Corinium to the franchise recommendation. Things change when Tony finds out about Cameron's (Williams) relationship with Rupert and lashes out at him for attacking him. Cameron defends herself, and it's unclear if Tony is still alive at the end of the season 1 finale.
Meanwhile, Declan has his own problems after his wife, Maud (Smurfit), decides to give up acting. Declan may also end up falling out with Rupert after telling his friend not to rush into anything with his daughter, Taggie (MacLean). Rupert broke that promise at the end of the first season when he finally kissed Taggie despite being in a relationship with Cameron.

Is Tony Dead?
The biggest change in the book was Cameron beating Tony instead. The season 1 finale left Tony's fate unclear as he bled out in his office.
A great producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins earlier he teased that Tony was really dead, he said TV Insider in October 2024, “There are so many possibilities about what could happen, but what we do know about revenge is the most consumed food on television.”
Rivals wouldn't be what they are without Rupert and Declan's adversary sticking around. There is also Tony's wife, Monica (Claire Rushbrook), worried because he was waiting for her to come home. After confronting him about his affair with Cameron, Monica threatened to leave him, so we need to know how that plays out.
Will Tony and Rupert's Feud Be Fixed?
Although the Venturer has a chance to enter the franchise, they have not won. Corinium is still a very established company – even with Tony seemingly out of a job. The future of the Venturer is a big question mark Us' think as we await new episodes of the show.
Are Rupert And Taggie Dating – Or Will She Marry Cameron?
The entire first season was leading up to Rupert and Taggie's kiss – but the road to happily ever after isn't so easy. Although (spoiler alert!) Rupert and Taggie do get married in the book series, it's unclear how bad things will continue to get for the fan-favorite couple.
“I am very happy. There are many obstacles in our way and Rupert is morally conflicted. I wonder what will happen to Taggie now,” said MacLean alone Us Weekly December 2024. “It's going to be very difficult, but what that means for Taggie is really exciting. There are a lot of ideas being thrown around. We have to get season 2 as soon as possible.”
There's also Declan to think about as Rupert has promised not to check anything with his daughter.
“That will be difficult. And he kept his promise – partly for Declan – but I think for many other reasons. Rupert thought that Taggie was too good for him and that he shouldn't drag him down to his level. So I think he tried to distance himself from respect even though he didn't do it in the best way,” explained Hassell. “Because he thought that was the right thing to do in general – against Declan's wishes.”
He continued: “But I think he really values his relationship and his deep friendship with Declan. But they also started Corinium, so they will try to get a franchise. So they have to work as a team that way.”
Are Maud and Declan perfect?
Declan and Maud's marriage reached a climax in the finale, but is this the end? Although the majority Us are fighting for Declan and Maud to move on, it wouldn't make sense not to see them talk about their problems in the second season of the show.
“You sacrificed a lot. It slowly comes to Declan – it comes in waves where he will get more and try to shake it off because of the guilt and shame that surrounds it and he gets busy again. Then it will come back again,” said Turner Us in December 2024. “It's almost the end of the season when it really shines on him for the damage he has caused.”
Turner wasn't sure where the story would go from here.
“It's always felt to me that Declan has a complex and complicated relationship with his wife and his family. But it always felt real to me. So I always had a door that I didn't feel like I had to fight for. He’s a good person, actually,” she said. “He loves his family and just wants to be with them. But then there's the ego and there's all these other complexities. Life is tricky and complicated and not what you think it will be. That's just understanding.”
Does That Mean There Is Hope For Declan And Cameron?
When one door closes, another opens. Us dwells on Declan and Cameron's potential romance, which Turner has not ruled out.
“In the Cameron situation, they work very well together. And on [book]there is a project they are both doing outside of the country that is taking them both out,” he laughed Us. “And I think that their friendship and their relationship has been put to the test. That's all I can say. I don't want to say too much.”
What Was In Declan's Envelope About Rupert?
Before resolving their issues, Declan had planned to bury Rupert on live TV with a secret he kept in an envelope. Declan didn't use the smoking gun and later burn the paper, but it wouldn't be enough to leave that unaddressed. For now, all we know is the name Perdita, which means nothing unless you've read Cooper's novels.
How will Sarah's pregnancy be dealt with?
Season 1 introduced Sarah (Atack) as Paul's (Rufus Jones) the often unfaithful wife of Rupert and later James (Oliver Chris). She found out she's expecting a baby at the end of season 1 – except it's unclear who the father is.
Will Lizzie and Freddie Continue Their Relationship?
If there's ever a time to shake off the infidelity, Lizzie (Parkinson) and Freddie would be the perfect couple for it. They spent the entire first season fighting their feelings for each other until they ended up sleeping together in the finale. Now they have to go back to their spouses – Lizzie is married to James while Freddie is married to Valerie (Lisa McGrillis) — unless they decide to leave their marriages and start living together.
