A California inmate accused of killing a convicted child trafficker
An inmate in a California prison is accused of killing his cellmate, who has been convicted of multiple crimes, including child trafficking.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said Monday it is investigating a homicide that occurred at Kern Valley State Prison on Saturday.
Gregory Clark, 58, was spotted by police in his cell with blood on his clothes around 3:19 p.m. Saturday, according to CDCR. His cellmate, Darius Swain, 41, appeared unresponsive in the cell – prompting a call for help.
Clark was removed without incident and medical personnel, who called 911, began life-saving measures on Swain.

Swain was pronounced dead at 3:48 pm by paramedics at the prison's Treatment and Triage Area.
He arrived at the prison in March 2019 from Alameda County, where he was sentenced to life in prison for trafficking a minor, assault, burglary, robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.

Clark has been placed in solitary confinement pending an investigation by the prison's investigative unit.
He arrived in prison in March 2011 from Los Angeles County, where he was sentenced to 22 years for domestic violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prior convictions and a felony conviction.
On Jan. 25, 2021, was sentenced to an additional two years in Kern County for assault with a deadly weapon.

The Kern County Coroner will determine Swain's cause of death. Details about what happened between the two men were not yet available.
