A former world cycling champion is facing trial after pleading guilty to a lesser charge in the death of the Olympian's wife

Rohan Dennis, two-time and two-time world champion cyclist Olympic medalist, faces seven years in prison after pleading guilty to his role in the death of his wife, Australian Olympian Melissa Hoskins, in 2023, in court on Tuesday.

Dennis, who retired from the sport in 2023, negotiated a plea deal with Australian prosecutors in which the 34-year-old will not be charged. the death of his wife, who was hit by his car in front of their home in Adelaide on 30 December 2023 and later died from his injuries.

The original aggravated charges of dangerous driving causing death and aggravated driving without due care were withdrawn. Dennis instead pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.

“There was no intent for Mr. Dennis to harm his wife and this case does not charge him with her death,” Dennis' attorney said in court. Australian.
