A Malibu man who briefly locked himself in his home after allegedly shooting Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies was arrested Friday afternoon.
The Sheriff's Department received a call about a gunshot in the Carbon Canyon area of Malibu just before 2:00 p.m. Friday, said Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station Commander Lt. Ronald Klumpp.
Located in the foothills of Malibu's eastern edge, Carbon Canyon offers sweeping views of the coast below – a thin strip of sand called Billionaire's Beach, where sand seekers have long battled industrial landowners for right of way. in a way.
Deputies arrived at the scene in the 22000 block of Carbon Mesa Road about ten minutes after the initial call, and “the suspect fired in their direction, missing one deputy,” Klumpp said.
After the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself in a house in the area where he lives, said Klumpp. A sheriff's helicopter arrived and repeatedly called the suspect through a microphone advising him to surrender, Klumpp said.
“A short time later, he came out safely, put his gun down and surrendered to deputies without incident,” Klumpp said. The suspect has not been publicly identified.
The suspect is expected to be detained in three cases of attempted murder of a police officer, said Klumpp. The suspect was taken to a local hospital before booking and treated for an “external wound,” Klumpp said.
“I'm not sure how it happened. It happened of his own accord, inside his home,” said Klumpp, adding that the injuries have been repaired.
The suspect's motives are still unknown.
