A man putting up Christmas lights in Escondido dies after being electrocuted

A man who was putting Christmas lights on a tree in San Diego County was electrocuted and died Thursday, according to authorities.

The man was working near the intersection of Idaho Avenue and Skyline Drive in Escondido when he was electrocuted by a power line, KNSD-TV reported.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the worker was hospitalized and died from his injuries.

The owner of the home where the man was working told KNSD that the accident happened when the worker was throwing Christmas lights over a power line.

“It used to be SDG&E [San Diego Gas & Electric Co.] they shut off the power, our crews were able to reach the victim with a ladder truck,” Escondido Fire Department Chief Brian Salazar told KNSD. “He brought the victim to us, where he was put in an ambulance and taken to Palomar Hospital in critical condition.”
