A mother and daughter were attacked over a parking dispute at Citadel Outlets
It's not uncommon to struggle for good deals during the holiday shopping season. It's a completely different story when the fight starts in the parking lot outside the store.
That's what authorities say happened this week at Cidatel Outlets in Commerce around 5:00 p.m. when a group of people attacked a 19-year-old woman in the parking lot and stole her mother's purse during the argument.
Natalie Martinez and her mother, Patricia Cupa, were looking for a parking spot Wednesday when they saw an open space next to a car with its door open, the two told KTLA-TV.
Martinez waited a few minutes and then honked to let the person in the other car know that he was going to park in an empty lot. After entering the area, a group of people got out of a neighboring car and started arguing, KTLA reported. The parties exchanged words and the altercation turned physical, Martinez said. The video does not show who started the fight.
But what happened after the first punch was captured on cellphone video shared with KTLA.
The group in the other car surrounded Martinez between the two cars, two people punched him repeatedly while the third person pulled his legs and took him to the ground. Martinez also seems to be fighting back.
A man in the group is shown getting into Martinez's car. The man stole his mother's purse, which contained $3,000 in rent, bills and gifts, credit cards and her ID, the two told KTLA.
Martinez suffered multiple bruises and a cut lip, according to the news station.
This incident is being investigated and detectives are busy to find the suspects, said Lt. Jose Navares with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
“There is still time before they are caught,” he said.
