A police car chases a home burglary in LA, pulling the guard over
A high-speed police chase led to a violent crash Saturday night as a car carrying four people crashed into the side of a Culver City home, authorities said.
Video from the scene of the crash shows a red SUV veer off Sawtelle Boulevard and into the side of a home. Its rear wheels remain outside.
The passengers — two men and two women — were not seriously injured, according to Officer Erik Larsen of the California Highway Patrol, and no one was inside the home.
One person was arrested, and a gun was found on the ground nearby, according to Larsen.
A red Dodge Durango was spotted by police when the driver failed to blow the horn around 9:40 p.m. Police quickly followed on the northbound 405 freeway near the Sepulveda Boulevard exit.
According to the CHP, the SUV was driving on the shoulder of the highway.
The driver exited the freeway, went south again, and ended up on Culver Boulevard in Culver City, where he crashed into the side of a home.
Larsen said the SUV took “about 300 feet of guardrail” with it.
The offramp was closed Sunday morning while the California Department of Transportation repaired the tracks, he said.
One person who said he was a passenger in the car spoke to OnSceneTV and said he “thought he was going to die.”
He told the media that his friend was driving when they saw the “red and green lights” of a CHP squad car and the driver “decided to run away from it.”
Larsen said the collision caused extensive damage to the home.
