A shooting at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, left five people dead Monday, including the alleged shooter, and at least five others injured, authorities said.
Children were among the dead, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at Abundant Life Christian School, a private institution that educates approximately 400 students from kindergarten through Grade 12, the Madison Police Department said on social media.
Madison Police Chief Sean Barnes said during a press conference that at least five people died in the incident, including the suspect who was shot, whom he identified as a child who was found dead by the police when the police arrived at the school.
At least five people were transported from the scene to local hospitals, Barnes said.
Video posted at the scene on social media showed dozens of emergency services, including police, ambulances and fire trucks.
“Multiple injuries have been reported,” Madison police wrote on social media. “This is still an ongoing and ongoing investigation.”
There was no word on who did this incident.
Gun control and school safety have become major political and social issues in the US, where the number of school shootings has skyrocketed in recent years.
There have been 322 school shootings this year in the US, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database. That's the second-highest total in any year since 1966, according to that database — topped only by last year's total of 349 shootings.
