A suspect in the market attack has been remanded in custody amid outrage over a lack of security

The suspect appeared in court after an attack on a Christmas market in Germany on Friday killed five people and injured more than 200.

The suspect, who is a doctor from Saudi Arabia, was named Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, who came to Germany in 2006 and was recognized as a refugee in 2016.

This comes as German authorities are facing mounting challenges after the suspect used an emergency vehicle ramp to enter the market.

During his visit on Saturday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ministers and regional political leaders were surrounded by members of the public, some of whom appeared angry at what has been criticized as a lack of security.
