Amanda Knox Says 3-Year-Old Daughter Asks About News From Italy
Amanda Knox she knew she couldn't protect her children from her past forever, but her three-year-old daughter is already asking questions.
Thirteen years after he was released from an Italian prison after being wrongfully imprisoned for almost four years, he told ReasonTV that his daughter is asking for stories about her time in Italy.
“He likes it when I tell him a story so he's like, 'Tell me a story about Bluey, tell me a story about Fairy Afternoon' — sometimes he asks me to 'Tell me a story about Mom going to Italy,'” she said.
“I have to say, 'Well, Mom went to Italy and something really bad happened — somebody hurt their friend and Mom got hurt,'” he continued.
“And my daughter says 'why?' and I'm like 'I don't know,'” she said.
Knox, now 37, was arrested in 2007 along with her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito for the murder of his roommate,Meredith Kercher. Their convictions were eventually overturned when an appeals court found that there was no evidence and that Knox's confession was coerced.
Rudy Guede he was later convicted of killing Kercher after DNA and fingerprints were found at the scene. He was released from prison in 2021.
Knox, now a mother of two, added that as the subject of a true crime documentary and memoir, she feels “absolutely exploited” by the genre.
“The worst things that have happened in people's lives are not only of interest to the public or are talked about because of the integrity of the journalist – it is entertainment and often the people who are most vulnerable to how those stories go and how they are told that there is nothing to say about it,” he explained.
Knox added that he approved the 2016 Netflix documentary Amanda Knox after he was informed that the film would not be made without his participation.
Despite his acquittal, Knox has had numerous interventions in the Italian legal system since then. He was convicted of defamation in 2009 after lying about his former employer Patrick Lumba murder. He was convicted again in 2024 and sentenced to three years in prison, but did not have to serve more time as his four years in prison counted as time served.
Knox is now executive producing a Hulu series about his ordeal, titled Green Moon. The series has been a source of controversy in Perugia, the city where the murder took place and where it was filmed. Local residents put up banners reading “Rispetto per Meredith” (“Respect for Meredith”), according to the Varietyleading to a public apology from the mayor of Perugia Vittoria Ferdinandi by authorizing the shooting.
