Authorities insist 'no known threat to public safety' following unusual drones near Trump Bedminster club

Authorities investigating unusual drone activity seen several times in northern New Jersey in recent days, including near President-elect Trump's Bedminster golf club, continue to insist there is no threat to public safety.

Several videos show drones flying in Somerset and Morris counties in the past few weeks, including Dec. 1 and Dec. 3. In a video from Nov. 25, Morris County resident Mike Walsh saw drones flying over Black River Middle School in Chester. .

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed on Tuesday that it has issued two flight restrictions, including the airspace over Trump Bedminster.

On Nov. 18, the FAA began receiving reports of drone activity within Morris County, whose border is about two miles north of Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in Somerset County.

On Wednesday, Morris and Somerset County law enforcement issued a joint statement acknowledging the sighting.

“There continues to be an unknown threat to public safety,” the statement read.

“State and local law enforcement agencies are aware of ongoing drone reports around Morris and Somerset counties, and acknowledge the public's concern about these repeated sightings.”

“The County Prosecutor's, Sheriff's and Emergency Management Offices, our local police departments, working closely with the FBI-Newark, the New Jersey State Police and our partners in the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, want to assure the public that we will continue to monitor and investigate the operation of the drone.”

They say the FBI-Newark and New Jersey State Police are asking the public to report any information related to recent sightings of possible aircraft.

Warren County officials issued a similar joint statement and are also seeking the public's help in documenting drone information within Warren County, especially those involving critical infrastructure.

“The Warren County Prosecutor's Office and local Law Enforcement agencies are aware of recent sightings of drone activity within Warren County. We would like to acknowledge the public's concern and advise that there is no known threat to public safety at this time,” Warren said. District Attorney Jessica Cardone said in a statement with Acting Chief of Detectives Brenton Warne, the Warren County Police Chiefs Association and the Warren County office. Emergency Management.

The FAA, at the request of “federal safety partners,” has issued two temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) amid several reports of drone sightings in Central Jersey.

One limitation includes the area near the Solberg-Hunterdon County Airport that includes airspace above Trump Bedminster. Aircraft are also banned over the Picatinny Arsenal, a major US Army facility in Dover, New Jersey, dedicated to research and development for its weapons facility.

The ban remains in effect on Trump Bedminster until the end of this week and on Picatinny Arsenal until Dec. 26.

“Safely integrating drones into the National Airspace System is a top priority for the FAA,” the agency said in a statement Tuesday. The agency says they haven't issued any updates since then.

“We review all reports of unauthorized drone operations and investigate when appropriate,” the agency said, adding pilots who endanger flights or people could have their certification revoked and/or face a $75,000 fine.

Local media reported that law enforcement has been monitoring drone activity in the area.

Sightings also occurred a few miles north of Bedminster in Mendham and Parsippany, where I-80 meets I-287.

A Parsippany woman told the Morristown Record that she saw several drones overhead Sunday night.

The drone sighting in New Jersey comes as unidentified drones have been spotted at joint British-American bases in the United Kingdom.

“Swarms of tiny drones” seen over Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, RAF Fairford and RAF Feltwell in England. Some of those bases have F-15 and F-35 jets.

The British military has sent dozens of personnel to protect the bases, and a Pentagon spokesman said on Nov. 26.
