Big green city mayor slams media questioning Trump as Hitler: 'Enough of this'

New York Mayor Eric Adams has criticized the media for asking him to compare former President Trump to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, saying they are out of touch with the American people.

At his weekly news conference at City Hall on Tuesday, Adams was surprised to ask whether Trump is a preacher, a line of criticism that has become more prominent after Trump's recent rally at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“With everything that's going on, for everyday New Yorkers, we're asking the questions, 'Is somebody a fascist or somebody's Hitler?' That's an insult to me,” he says. “And I won't get involved in that. Everyone needs to reject the speech. Because after Election Day, we should still be the United States and not different countries.”

“Also, if people don't understand that there are real issues facing New Yorkers … and I just find it embarrassing that what moms and dads do every day and passers-by across this country, that we're having a conversation about it. This is stupid,” Adams continued.

“So, I refuse to participate in that. I'm going to fight for the people of New York like I've been doing for years and anyone who doesn't understand that, they're not on the streets. When I'm in these city halls. I'm talking to people there, they don't ask me these crazy questions.”

Adams went on to warn reporters that they, like many politicians, are in a “bubble” that leaves them out of touch and focused on stories about comparisons with fascism rather than the concerns of ordinary Americans.

“We're in this bubble, you know, and I know you really believe these stories you're writing. They make you click more and more. It's fun, it gives you headlines. But this is not something New Yorkers and Americans do. Dealing with people,” he said. “They're afraid of their future. Someone has to stand up and say enough is enough.”

He then emphasized his point, “Reduce the rhetoric. Let the people hear the facts. Let them vote and we will decide what the next four years will be in our city. And that is my position. I will not make it clear.”

Adams criticized Trump's MSG rally on Sunday for promoting “hateful words” from an invited speaker, despite Trump's positive shout-out to the mayor during the event.

Last week, Adams came to Trump's defense amid growing claims from Trump critics, including Harris, that the 45th president is a “fascist” and Hitler-like.

“I've had those comments thrown at me by political leaders around town; my answer is 'No,'” Adams said Saturday when asked about the allegations against Trump.

“I know what Hitler did, and I know what a fascist regime looks like. I think, as I have called repeatedly, that the level of discussion, I think we can all dial down the temperature,” he added. .
