90 Day Partner star David Murphy He died at the age of 66 following health problems.
Murphey's family shared the news via Instagram on Wednesday, December 18. “We are very saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024 after experiencing health problems for the past several years. He was 66 years old,” they wrote.
The statement noted that Murphey “was a veteran, small business owner and software engineer.” The family said Murphey had recently retired from the Clark County Treasurer's office in Nevada, where he worked for H&R Block and IGT.
“He was also known during his time as an actor 90 Day Boyfriend: Before 90 Days,” they wrote. “Her time on the show allowed her to connect with viewers, see the world, and share her experiences with her thousands of Instagram followers. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and fans. David is survived by his two sisters and his cat Gamera. The family has asked for privacy at this difficult time.”
The statement also honored Murphey's love of cats and encouraged his fans to make a donation to The Animal Foundation in his name.
“As many know, David loved cats,” they wrote. “She always made an effort to adopt cats and give them a good, loving home. David chose to be adopted by the Animal Foundation in Las Vegas. For friends and fans who want to help, we ask that you honor his memory by making a donation to The Animal Foundation in his name.”
Murphy opened up about his life's struggles during an Instagram live in March 2023. “I was sick, actually,” he put it succinctly at the time.
While laughing about the detector that could be heard chirping in the background of the video, Murphy explained that he was not at his home much. “I have been in and out of the hospital for almost three months,” he said.
“It's similar to the problems I had in November when I entered[to] in the hospital and they don't know what it is,” he said. “My liver is not working properly. I think right now I'm finally getting a little color back. Man, I would have drunk so much, it was crazy. … I've been waiting for that to go away.”
Murphy explained that his gallbladder “has to come out,” but “they don't want to do that until they get the liver working.” He added, “I've had all these tests and they still don't know.
Murphy said doctors thought he had “malignant Hepatitis” but he did not have the disease at the time. He added that “something is going on” with his pancreas and kidneys and he had two blood clots in his lungs. “They don't know if it's cancer yet,” he said.
Murphy was cast in season 4 of the 90's Boyfriend of the Day: Before 90 Dayswhere he met his girlfriend It's raining. The pair had been talking online for seven years after meeting on the dating app Anastasia Date. Murphy proposed to Lana in 2019 but the two called it quits.
