'Breaking Amish' Alum Mama Mary Schmucker in Hospice Amid Cancer Battle
Breaking the Amish's Mother Mary Schmucker has moved into hospice care during her battle with cancer, her daughter-in-law Rebecca Schmucker shared.
Taking to social media, Rebecca shared a photo of Mary on Instagram on Wednesday, November 13, calling Breaking the Amish Fans sent their best wishes to her mother-in-law as she informed them of her condition.
“I am asking for a prayer from my mother. “She hasn't been feeling well for the past few weeks and can't keep anything down and has trouble eating,” wrote Rebecca, 32. “She's in the hospital now.”
He continued, “His pain is very bad and they are helping with that. If you can, fill her with positive messages and pray for her comfort and pain-free. Thank you!🙏🏼”
Fans quickly flocked to Mary's Instagram, taking to the comments section to share positives and support.
“Stay strong! Holding you in the light and we wish you a speedy recovery,” one fan wrote, while another added, “Stay strong😢 the world is praying for you. We love you ❤️”
One fan wrote, “Praying makes you feel better. You have been such an anchor to your family and an example of unconditional love and support. ❤️”
Mary has appeared on TLC reality shows Breaking the Amish again Back to the Amishand a son Abe and daughter-in-law Rebecca. He was a recurring cast member but stayed on the show following Abe and Rebecca's departure.
The reality TV star revealed his health struggles in April 2022, sharing on Facebook that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer.
“Just wanted to give a little update,” Mary wrote at the time. “As you know I have colon cancer, and I am scheduled for surgery this month.”
Although the operation seemed to go well at first, Mary's condition later worsened.
“When I operated, they said they found all the cancer. Two weeks later they called me and said, 'You have to come in right away.'” Mary shared on Facebook in June 2022. “Now they're telling me, I have stage three cancer, almost stage four. Chemo will not help in stage four. So, why should I do chemo? But I don't take their word for it; I will seek a second opinion.”
In addition to her Instagram posts urging fans to send love Mary's way, Rebecca has often praised her mother-in-law on social media.
“Because of you, I know strength, determination and above all how to live a little,” Rebecca wrote about Mary in September 2022 in the birth religion. “Our friendship is something I will cherish forever! You're the shit on my deep side. Thank you for everything you have done for us! I love you mom!”
Echoing this sentiment in 2021, Rebecca wrote, “I have the best mother-in-law I could ever dream of having! Love him a little! “
