President-elect Trump announced Sunday that he has selected Brendan Carr to serve as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) beginning in January.

Carr, currently the FCC's top Republican member, was first appointed to the commission by Trump in 2017. In a statement released Sunday night, Trump praised Carr and noted that he was “unanimously confirmed by the three United States Senate.” times.”

“His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now nominate him as Chairman in perpetuity,” Trump wrote.

The Republican leader went on to call Carr a “champion of Free Speech” who “fought against restrictive legislation that stopped the Freedom of the American People, and restored our economy.”

“He will end the crackdown that has been crippling America's Job Creators and Innovators, and ensure that the FCC serves the needs of rural America,” Trump added.

“Congratulations to Chairman Brendan Carr for a job well done,” concluded the president-elect's statement. “Lead us to a better future, Brendan!”

Carr recently made national headlines after ripping the cast of “Saturday Night Live” for putting Kamala Harris on as a guest without inviting Trump, which violates FCC rules.

“NBC edited this in a way clearly designed to avoid FCC regulations,” the official said shortly after the episode aired. “We're talking about 50 hours before Election Day starts, with no notice to the other candidates, as far as I know.”

Carr later told Fox News Digital that Harris' appearance “[made] that is clear [“SNL”] I wanted to consider one person before the election.”

“That's why, for decades, we've had an equal-term law on the books, to prevent that,” the Republican explained. “Because remember, broadcasters are placed in a special position of trust. They're not like any other person on a corner soapbox. They have a license from the federal government that obligates them to work in the public interest.”
